They kindly helped us with grab and go snack bags for the Go Girls! program, with thoughtful messages of inspiration for the girls and youth we serve and with dropping off wine from the annual @grapejuiceevent Auction!

June 1 marks the beginning of National Indigenous

June 1 marks the beginning of National Indigenous History Month in Canada. It serves as a time where we as a community come together to honour the culture, contributions, and resilience of First Nations, Inuit and Métis. It is an opportunity for Canadians to reflect on the trauma and pain that we have incurred upon Indigenous communities within our history. Reconciliation requires consistent efforts in understanding and acknowledging the colonization of Canada and the assimilation of Indigenous nations. This is a time where we can support, uplift, and celebrate the contributions that First Nations, Inuit and Méti have made in Canada Over the next month and throughout the year, the team at Big Sisters BCLM commits to better understanding our own community and the Indigenous land we reside on. We honour that the land on which we work and mentor is the traditional and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), QayQayt First Nation, Kwantlen, q̓íc̓əy̓ (Katzie), Semiahmoo, Tsawwassen First Nations, kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), and Stó:lō Nation.
