We would like to take this week to say thank you to our army of volunteers who dedicate their time each week to meet with a Little. Our Big Sisters are more than just volunteers, they become family members, dedicated friends and loving mentors. We are so proud of each and every one of them, your generosity, dedication and love is key to the success of so many of our resilient Little Sisters. 

The Challenge:
more than a quarter of Lower Mainland grade four children have low well-being.

The Solution: Mentoring

  • Brain science tells us that it only takes one caring adult to help a child build the brain architecture for life-long resilience
  • 92% of adults who had a mentor feel confident and 96% say they’re happy
  • 93% of Little Sisters feel better about themselves since having a Big Sister

The Challenge:
Youth who do not graduate from high school are at a serious disadvantage.

The Solution: Mentoring

  • Students who meet regularly with their mentors are 52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school
  • Girls are 2X more likely to be confident in their ability to be successful at school
  • Adults who had a mentor as a child are more likely to have a post-secondary education, be employed, and earn higher wages

The Challenge:
70% of mental health problems have their onset during childhood or adolescence.

The Solution: Mentoring

  • Girls who have a mentor are 3X less likely to have social anxiety and 2X less likely to be depressed
  • Girls with a Big Sister are 4X less likely to bully, fight, lie or lose their temper
  • 87% of adults who had a mentor in their youth report having strong social networks

The Challenge:
Social pressures for girls to be perfect are at an all-time high.

The Solution: Mentoring

  • 93% of girls who complete the Go Girls! program feel good about the way they look
  • 100% of school representatives observed increased confidence in the girls who participated in the Go Girls! program
  • 82% of parents said they believe their daughter feels better about herself and is more confident since being involved with Big Sisters
