So You Think You Know Yoga?

Here at Big Sisters when we think of yoga – we think big!

BIG ideas. BIG inspiration. BIG impact. We talk a big game and we can back it up.

There are so many special things about Big Yoga™ for Big Sisters. We love the idea of using your practice to transform girls’ lives. We love beautiful David Lam Park. We love our community partners joining us with activities onsite—Inner Fire, Skoah, Ananta Wellness & Osteopathy, ivivva, and JamJar.

We love YOU for committing to this event with your fundraising efforts and awesome energy of the day.

You know what else? We love, love, love the opportunity to share six completely different styles of yoga led by some of the city’s best and brightest instructors!

FLOW YOGA with Rachel Scott

Flow from one pose to the next with a dynamic sequence of postures that synchronizes your breath with movement in order to build strength, balance, and flexibility. With Yogi, writer, nerd, and teacher Rachel Scott leading the class, enjoy an experience that is rigorous, supportive, hilarious, and authentic.

VIJNANA YOGA with Chris Clancy

The art and practice of moving from inside. This will be a slow, delicious morning practice. You will discover the joys of inner exploration, learn healthy movement patterns, and open the door to living a more empowered, authentic life. Chris Clancy is the developer of Embodied Biotensegrity for teachers of all movement practices, and lead trainer with Vijnana Yoga International.

ASHTANGA YOGA with Sarah Kozlowski

The Ashtanga method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. Sarah Kozlowski guides students to use asana as a tool to cultivate a stable body, and a steady mind. She is currently apprenticing with Fiona Stang at Ashtanga Yoga Vancouver.

GIRLVANA YOGA with Hayley Dobson

Experience how Girlvana is growing consciousness in teen girls through yoga, meditation, and promoting a healthy lifestyle. All ages and genders welcome, the benefits of yoga are endless for everyone. With Hayley Dobson teaching you can expect playful and energetic vinyasa flows, carefully curated music, a little laughter, and a lot of love.

IYENGAR YOGA with Morgan Rae and Cheryl Joseph

Iyengar yoga, named after and developed by B. K. S. Iyengar, is a form of Hatha Yoga that has an emphasis on detail, precision, and alignment in the performance of posture (asana) and breath control (pranayama). Team taught by directors of The Yoga Space, Morgan Rae and Cheryl Joseph, who believe yoga brings a freedom and openness to the body and to life, which enhances every aspect of our lived experience.

YOGA TRANCE DANCE with Clara Roberts Oss

Yoga Trance Dance flows from classic yoga asanas into free form movements and back again. All breath driven movements can liberate one’s creative life-force and cultivate embodied freedom. Join Clara Roberts Oss and experience the spiritual practice of “lila,” cosmic play. When we play, we are open to the unfolding while in process. For Clara, it is less about the goal and more about the evolution.
