Volunteer Spotlight: Tianna, My Voice, My Power! Mentor
At Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland, our group mentoring programs are made possible by passionate volunteers who show up with compassion, care, and commitment. This month—and in honour of National Volunteer Week 2025—we’re shining a spotlight on Tianna Sellitti, a dedicated My Voice, My Power! mentor who is truly making waves.
“Mentorship means being the positive change I want to see in the world,” Tianna shares. “It’s about empowering the next generation of girls and gender-diverse youth to embrace their voices and recognize them as a source of power.”
Creating Space for Confidence
Tianna joined My Voice, My Power! in September 2024 and is currently in her third term. What she finds most rewarding is being the kind of supportive presence she once needed—a steady listener and trusted guide.
One moment that stands out for Tianna is watching a shy, reserved participant blossom over their eight weeks together.
“At first, she didn’t feel comfortable sharing and kept her distance. But by the end, she was engaging, expressing her thoughts, and even starting conversations with us mentors—talking about her love for gymnastics and her vacation plans. That transformation was so moving to witness.”
Why Mentorship Matters
For Tianna, mentorship is a way to give back while helping youth feel heard, seen, and empowered. She knows firsthand how impactful it can be when someone believes in you—and now, she’s passing that belief on to others.
“What I enjoy most is being the kind of mentor I once needed. Someone who listens, encourages, and shares the guidance I wish I had growing up.”
Get Involved
Tianna’s story is a powerful reminder that mentorship isn’t just about showing up—it’s about creating ripples of connection, confidence, and growth. This National Volunteer Week, we’re grateful for every volunteer who makes waves in the lives of youth.
