Located on Vancouver’s waterfront with a gorgeous mountain backdrop, the Level II Ocean Foyer will host the 2017 Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland Spring Lunch this March. With maximized natural light and local BC wood productsfrom sustainably-managed forests used throughout the facility, this is set to be a beautiful event made for a great cause.
To join us in celebration of mentorship, Dr. Shimi Kang will be our keynote speaker. Shimi believes in the powerful role and impact of mentorship on the lives of young girls. In fact, she “prescribes” Big Sisters. As Benjamin Franklin said, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” A good mentor breaks you out of your comfort zone, learns your strengths and weaknesses, and helps you achieve greatness. Girls who are involved can learn so much just from someone who is willing to be there.
In a world where 9 out of 10 girls say they feel pressure from the media to be thin and 50% of girls say they wish they were someone else, isn’t it time to change the perception to be “perfect?” In a world where feminism is taking flight and more women are fighting to break the glass ceiling, isn’t it time to empower the next generation so that they grow up with confidence?
This is what Spring Lunch 2017 is all about; it is a part of a movement to help young girls fulfill their potential and break free from their fears, doubts and worries. We believe mentoring is a powerful tool to achieve this, and if you agree too, we’d love for you to join us on March 30th.
