Her Voice. Her Power.: Reflecting on an Evening of Connection and Impact
In honour of International Women’s Day, Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland welcomed guests to Her Voice. Her Power., an evening that brought our community together to experience the heart of our group mentoring programs.
The event was filled with uplifting energy, thoughtful conversation, and a shared commitment to supporting girls and gender diverse youth. It was a chance to pause, connect, and reflect on the impact that mentorship and community support can have when it shows up consistently.
An Evening Rooted in Connection

Throughout the evening, guests had the opportunity to learn more about our programs and hear directly from individuals who have experienced the impact of mentorship firsthand.
The atmosphere reflected what our programs strive to create every day: spaces where young people feel supported, heard, and empowered to grow. It was a powerful reminder that meaningful change often begins with something simple, showing up.
An Evening Rooted in Connection
A key theme throughout the event was consistency and the role it plays in shaping a young person’s life.
Tianna, a Youth Mentor and Ambassador, spoke about the importance of prevention focused conversations. She shared how creating space for these discussions, again and again, helps young people build confidence, develop awareness, and navigate challenges more effectively. Over time, these moments do not just support individuals, they contribute to stronger, healthier communities.
Daniel, a dedicated monthly donor and Board Member, reflected on consistency from another perspective. Through his own experiences, he has seen how showing up reliably builds trust and creates lasting change.
“Consistency is powerful. Monthly donorship is a really powerful way to create consistent opportunities for young people.”
— Daniel Levangie, Monthly Donor & Big Sisters Board Member
Why It Matters
The stories shared throughout the evening pointed to the same truth. Change does not happen all at once. It happens over time, through relationships, trust, and the commitment to keep showing up.
At Big Sisters, this is what mentorship looks like. It is built on consistency, care, and connection. Whether through group programs or one to one mentoring, these relationships help young people build confidence, strengthen their sense of self, and feel supported as they grow.
How You Can Support Youth
Events like Her Voice. Her Power. are a reminder that everyone has a role to play in supporting the next generation.
One way to make a lasting impact is through monthly giving. Consistent support helps ensure that programs continue to run, mentors are supported, and more young people have access to safe, empowering spaces.
Becoming a monthly donor is simple:
1. Choose an amount that feels right for you
2. Set up automatic monthly contributions
3. Support youth all year long
