Big Journeys – Big Sisters Newsletter 2025 Summer
A message from our CEO Chantelle Krish
Dear Big Sisters Community,
Welcome to the summer edition of our digital newsletter!
It’s been a meaningful and energizing few months at Big Sisters, and I’m excited to share some of the stories and milestones that have shaped our work this season. From launching our Unleashing Potential Campaign, to hosting our annual GrapeJuice fundraiser in partnership with RBC, and celebrating our incredible volunteers, June was filled with moments that reminded us of the power of mentorship and community.
We’re also proud to spotlight the Bright Futures Education Fund celebration and the ongoing success of our Go Girls! group mentorship program—initiatives that continue to support youth as they build confidence, resilience, and connection. One of the most powerful moments in this edition is a special video story from Rafaela and Lynn, a long-standing match whose journey captures the deep and lasting impact of mentorship.
At a time when many young people in BC are facing increased challenges with their mental health, the need for strong, consistent, and empowering mentorship is more important than ever. Through our programs, youth are building confidence, forming meaningful relationships, and gaining the tools to dream big about their futures.
As we mark 65 years of Big Sisters, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to our dedicated staff, committed board, and incredible community of supporters. Your passion and generosity make everything we do possible. Whether you’re a mentor, donor, volunteer, or partner—or someone just getting to know us—thank you for standing with us. Together, we’re building a future where all girls and gender-diverse youth have the support they need to thrive.
With appreciation,
Chantelle Krish
CEO

Rafaela Follows in the Footsteps of Big Sister Lynn
“I don’t really know where I’d be, or who I would be without Lynn.” – Rafaela, Little Sister
When Rafaela was first matched with her Big Sister Lynn, she was quiet, reserved and a little shy. She needed someone to believe in her so she could realize reach her full potential.
Lynn, a successful lawyer with a love for baking, became that someone. With the support, encouragement and backing of her Big Sister, Rafaela is now dreaming big and following in Lynn’s footsteps!
“One thing I’ve learned from Lynn is that you don’t have to change yourself to be successful. I’m still the same person Lynn met nine years ago—just more confident in who I am.”

Carmen Thériault is a retired Partner of Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP and co-chair of Big Sisters of B.C. Lower Mainland’s Unleashing Potential campaign. She has been a supporter of Big Sisters for over a decade and sits on our Honourary Advisory Board—a team of passionate advisors who provide a unique form of mentorship and support to the Big Sisters Board of Directors.
We asked Carmen to share her experience of mentorship and why Big Sisters is so important to her;
“Mentorship is crucial in all areas of life and something I have experienced the benefit of first hand. In fact the advice and experience of people I trust is what led me to Big Sisters—interestingly, an organization that itself is founded on mentorship benefits afforded to girls in our community.
Giving them a hands-up at a time in their lives when that could change everything, with programs aimed at fostering confidence, independence and educational attainment”.
Carmen continued, “That is something I want to be a part of and I’m honoured to be acting as co-chair for Big Sisters’ recently launched Unleashing Potential campaign. Central to this campaign is the creation of BC’s first ever dedicated Hub for Mentorship. A new home for Bigs and Littles to nurture and strengthen their relationships. This vibrant Hub will give youth and their mentors a place where they can explore educational opportunities, create art, participate in group activities, share a meal, talk about their futures, and feel a true sense of belonging. It’s a game changer that will positively impact the lives of our littles for years to come!”.
