BIV and Big Sisters of B.C. Lower Mainland have partnered to spotlight mentor-mentee pairs
In celebration of Big Sisters’ 65th Anniversary we have launched a storytelling series sharing the Power of Mentorship. Girls and gender-diverse youth who have access to the support of a mentor are more likely to report positive mental health, education, and career outcomes than their peers who did not have a mentor. As part of this series we’re sharing powerful stories from local leaders across Vancouver and the mentors and mentees who’ve shaped their journeys.
In total, 32 leaders in 16 mentorship pairs shared their stories about how they came to know their mentor or mentee. They spoke candidly about why they believe mentorship matters, and how it has influenced their own leadership. Some of the pairs featured are peer mentors, some initially met on the job or through formal mentorship programs, and others developed relationships informally over time.
