Volunteer Recognition Party 2026: Celebrating the People Behind Every Moment of Impact

Last week, we gathered once again for a meaningful evening dedicated to celebrating the volunteers who continue to show up, support, and uplift youth across our community through Big Sisters programs. The Volunteer Recognition Party 2026 was both a celebration and a moment of reflection, recognizing the time, care, and consistency that volunteers bring into their mentoring relationships.

More than an event, the evening was a reminder that every positive moment in a young person’s journey is often shaped by many small, steady acts of support from volunteers who choose to be present.

Honouring Commitment, Care, and Connection

Throughout the evening, we recognized volunteers whose dedication continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of youth. Whether through weekly check-ins, shared activities, or simply being a consistent presence, their impact is often quiet but deeply meaningful.

Volunteer relationships grow over time, shaped by trust, patience, and shared experiences. Each story shared throughout the evening reflected that impact is not always measured in big milestones, but in the everyday moments where a young person feels seen, heard, and supported.

Leaves & Fruits: Reflections of Growth and Impact

A central part of the evening was our interactive engagement activity, Leaves & Fruits, designed to reflect on the journey of volunteering from different perspectives.

Volunteers were invited to reflect and write their thoughts before placing them onto a shared “tree” installation.

The Leaves focused on reflection and growth. Conversations explored what volunteers initially envisioned when they began their journey, how their perspective has shifted over time, and what hopes they hold for the future of their volunteer experience and the youth they support.

The Fruits focused on impact. Volunteers shared moments of change they have witnessed, meaningful experiences with youth, and the outcomes they have seen through their involvement.

Together, these reflections formed a growing tree filled with personal insights and shared experiences, visually capturing the evolution of volunteer engagement and impact.

Volunteers Are the Pieces That Create the Bigger Picture

Another meaningful activity invited volunteers to reflect on their impact in a more personal way through a collaborative puzzle installation.

Each volunteer wrote down one way they have made a difference in a young person’s life on a puzzle piece. Piece by piece, the board came together to form a complete image, symbolizing how individual contributions collectively create something much larger.

As the puzzle took shape, so did a shared message: volunteers are the pieces that make up a bigger picture of care, connection, and community.

The Power of Shared Community

Throughout the evening, one message remained present in every conversation and activity. The impact of Big Sisters is built through relationships, and those relationships are supported by a wider community that believes in the importance of mentorship.

Volunteers had the opportunity to connect with one another, reflect on their experiences, and feel acknowledged for the time and energy they dedicate to youth. These moments of connection reinforced that volunteering is not only about what is given, but also about the relationships that grow along the way.
