About the role:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Senior Director of Philanthropy and Campaigns holds accountability for visioning, planning, executing, and establishing a strategic direction for the overall fundraising portfolio that is consistent with the agency’s short- and long-term fundraising revenue growth plans, with a particular focus on major gifts and campaigns. The annual organizational budget is $3.2 million, primarily generated through philanthropic activities. Additionally, a concurrent fundraising campaign is underway to support capital projects, growth, and organizational sustainability. The goals of the position are to develop and articulate strategies that take advantage of current and future fundraising opportunities and enable the organization to successfully meet its financial and sustainability goals to continue to grow programs to serve more youth. What you will be doing:

Strategy

  • Design and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, and goals.
  • Utilize data and analytics to inform fundraising strategies, track progress, and optimize efforts.
  • Implement systems to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising initiatives.
  • Explore and develop new and innovative fundraising approaches, including digital campaigns, peer-to-peer fundraising, and other emerging trends in philanthropy.
  • Work closely with program and communications teams to create integrated fundraising initiatives that align with program goals and organizational messaging.
  • Provide strategic guidance to the CEO, ensuring alignment of fundraising activities with organizational goals.

Leadership

  • Lead, motivate, and mentor the fundraising team to achieve organizational revenue goals while developing skills and capacity as fundraising professionals.
  • Oversee the management, hiring, and performance evaluation of all fundraising staff, setting standards of performance, coordinating operations and activities, and conducting annual reviews to ensure goals are achieved and policies and programs are effectively carried out.
  • Foster an empowered staff culture of collaboration, creativity, generosity, and high performance.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills to provide clear direction, build relationships, and effectively convey organizational goals and expectations to the team and stakeholders.
  • Role model the values of Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland in all actions and interactions.
  • Ensure the agency’s values and culture are maintained.

Revenue Generation

  • Manage the philanthropy budget and cultivate strategic partnerships to enhance fundraising efforts.
  • Lead efforts to cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with major donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Oversee and lead major fundraising campaigns, including capital/comprehensive campaigns, annual giving, and special initiatives.
  • Oversee the identification, application, and management of grants from foundations, government agencies, and other funding sources.
  • Oversee the successful delivery of two major annual events to ensure they meet fundraising goals and engage key stakeholders.
  • Partner with the Board of Directors and senior leadership to engage them in fundraising efforts.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive donor stewardship programs to recognize and retain donors at all giving levels.
What you bring:
  • Post-Secondary education in a relevant field (required); CFRE designation and/or training (preferred)
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant, multi-disciplinary fundraising experience
  • Five (5) or more years of leadership/management experience, ideally in the not-for-profit sector
  • Advanced working knowledge of CRMs; experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred
  • Experience in a social service organization preferred
  • Ability to understand, communicate and support the mission, vision, and values of the agency
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered

This Position:

This is a permanent, full-time (35 hours/week) position reporting to our Vancouver office with a minimum of two days in office. Daytime travel and some evening and weekend work will be required which will be supported through flex / lieu time.
