It's EASY to become a Study Buddy tutor!  In just 6 steps, you'll be matched with a girl in a one-to-one tutoring match that will have a BIG impact on her academic and personal life...and on yours!

STEP 1
Check that you meet the basic Study Buddy qualifications:

  • Age 19 or older
  • Canadian resident for at least 1 year (or able to provide us with an International Criminal Records Check).
  • Able to commit to spending 1 hour a week with your Little Sister Study Buddy for a minimum of 6 months (yes - you can certainly go on vacations or travel for work occassionally!)
  • Interested in helping a girl (aged 7-17) reach her academic goals.
  • Have a high school diploma.
  • Have some experience helping others learn.
  • Have some post-secondary education - completed or in-progress.
  • Be fluent in reading, writing and speaking English.
  • Comfortable with Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland's Core Values.

STEP 2
Read through "THE BIG INTRO" presentation for Study Buddies.

STEP 3
Submit your Study Buddy Application Form & Criminal Record Check (Download application form here or call 604.873.4525 ext. 300 to have one sent to you)

STEP 4
Attend a Study Buddy Training Session (once we receive your application we'll contact you to register you for a Training Session)

Step 5
Attend an interview with a Study Buddy caseworker (once we receive your application we'll contact you to schedule your interview)

STEP 6
Meet your Little Sister Study Buddy! Once you've completed the steps above and your application is accepted, we'll begin looking for a Little Sister for you (we try to match you with a Little Sister who lives in your city!). Once you are matched, your caseworker will provide you with on-going support through regular phone and in-person check-ins.
