'Extreme Ultra Marathoner' Supports Go Girls
In April 2010, North Vancouver native, Tiffany Saibil (pictured), ran the six day, 250km Marathon Des Sables across the Sahara Desert to raise money for Big Sisters' Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds group mentoring program. This was Tiffany's first extreme ultra marathon and she placed in the top 15% overall and in the top 10 women!
Tiffany raised $3,064 for Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds and is a true inspiration to the young girls who participate in the Go Girls! program, which teaches girls about being active and believing you can do whatever you set your mind to!
Grape Juice Wine Auction
McNeill Nakamoto Recruitment Group and CameronMcNeill.com hosted the exclusive 'Grape Juice' wine auction at V at Earls Yaletown on May 6, 2010. A record $54,000 was raised for Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland! Check out our Grape Juice page for details and photos of this great event!
COBS Bread Raises $25,122 for
Big Brothers & Big SistersCOBS Bread raised $25,122 for Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring agencies across Canada with their spring scone fundraiser. From May 8-9, 2010 COBS Bread bakeries donated $0.50 from the sale of every scone (including their new ‘kid approved’ banana chocolate chip scone!) to their local Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies. In just the second year of this partnership, COBS more than tripled the $6,690 they raised for Big Brothers Big Sisters last year!
Golf for Good Raises $115,000 for Charities
On June 23, 2010, 144 golfers participated in the 'Golf for Good' charity tournament at the University Golf Course at UBC. Big Sisters was thrilled to be partnering with Honourary Advisory Board Member Tracey McVicar of CAI Management for this tournament, which benefited Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland, Atira Women’s Resource Society, and the Vancouver Japanese Language School. $115,000 was raised for these three charities. Many thanks to all tournament sponsors, participants and volunteers!
2010 Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon & 5K Raises Almost $5,300 for Big Sisters
On the morning of June 27, 2010, 19 energetic people ran or walked the Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon & 5K in support of Big Sisters, crossing the finish line in picturesque Stanley Park. For the third year in a row, Scotiabank selected Big Sisters as one of their charity partners for this run and our team raised $5,296 in pledges for our mentoring programs this year. Thank you to everyone who participated in this great run that supports our Little Sisters AND keeps us all healthy and active!
